Resources for HIV/AIDS & Sexual and Reproductive Health Integration

CPI Event Logo

On Wednesday, March 1, 2006 , the Health Communication Partnership (HCP) and the INFO (Information and Knowledge for Optimal Health) Project — both based at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health/Center for Communication Programs — in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO), USAID, and Population Council/Horizons hosted an event focused on client-provider interaction (CPI) as it responds to clients' family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH) needs in HIV/AIDS service settings. This event built upon existing synergies among the IBP Initiative, the MAQ/CPI Initiative, and the FP/HIV Integration Working Group.

The purpose of this event was to facilitate ongoing networking and dialogue among program managers, researchers, and others interested in improving CPI as it relates to clients' FP/RH needs within HIV/AIDS service settings. Better counseling on FP for HIV/AIDS clients can enhance client satisfaction and improve health outcomes. We anticipate a follow-up event in 2007, in addition to the creation of an online community of practice.

Family Planning and HIV/AIDS Integration Online Forum

The forum is sponsored by the Health Communication Partnership, the INFO Project, and the Implementing Best Practices in Reproductive Health (IBP) Initiative, which is coordinated by the World Health Organization. More than 400 people from a range of countries have joined the forum to receive postings.

The forum is designed to provide participants with up-to-date and state-of-the-art information on what is happening in the field and an opportunity for synergy between sharing global best practices and country-based experiences. It will build upon existing partnerships and activities among three groups: the Implementing Best Practices in Reproductive Health Initiative (IBP) Initiative, the Maximizing Access and Quality Subcommittee on Client Provider Interaction (CPI), and the Family Planning and HIV/AIDS Integration Working Group. It was also designed to help launch an FP and HIV/AIDS Integration Community of Practice on the IBP Knowledge Gateway. Persons who want to participate can get information by sending an e-mail to info@ibpinitiative.org.

A checklist developed to help you design your own online forum is also available.
